The first few weeks of this month had been slow and uneventful for me what with taking over the kitchen duties for the Family whilst Mum is recuperating from her cataract operation on her right eye. She is fussy over the type of prepared meal she will eat and her prime concern seems to be that the "pantang foods" she cannot take is not inadvertently slipped into her lunch/dinner.
The tedium and ever hazy atmosphere encountering all of us malaccans recently is bothering me more and more as the years go by as this perennial problem seems without an end. The scene around melaka reminds me of Dubai's heat and sand. To ease matters and make life more interesting,Michelle and I played host to a few close friends over the weekend with a Pot Luck Dinner Theme and the night was suitably pleasant and entertaining with some eastern and western dishes appetizing and fulfilling our senses.
We were introduced to an Irish pie form called "keech" made for
us by Dorothy - which was absolutely divine. (Dorothy was another former
customer of mine when I was working in the Royal Selangor in Jusco showroom
days). Kumar wanted to contribute to the pot luck and ordered pizza's from
Domino's for everyone whereas Sandra gave all of us a treat with
bottles and bottles of Liqueur, amaretto and vodka!

Everyone enjoyed themselves so much we promised to do this all over again, soon ! Pyrelal suggested a date a week from now and it was agreed Willy will host us Dinner at his place next.
The days seemed to fold and melt easily into each other so much so, it becomes difficult to realise the dates and times in this period. Between the late morning preparations of items to cook for lunch, the actual act of preparing lunch, and cleaning up afterwards; it easily brings the day towards late afternoon before one even realizes the day is half over and then you need to begin on the other chores and duties.
Home duties and Family responsibilities aside, I've also initiated some activities earlier in the year for my Alumni by tying them up with simon's MTA /Straits Meridian Hotel / Menara Taming Sari Treasure Hunt.
With 27 teams confirmed and an excess of prizes and gift hampers available, it looks very promising and exciting venture for all the people involved.
En. Nazry, the Menara CEO even threw in a full buffet lunch for all the participating teams and officials with give away Tee's and goody bags so that everyone goes back happy ! As this will be the first SFA / Corporate company joint venture many are still unsure on how to support the process but with the professional assistance of the others I am very sure this form of joint cooperation and venture will bring more benefit to the Alumni in the future.

The MIC representative (Basil) who sits in this committee, provided some good insights to the necessary trouble shooting we need to be seen to accomplish and also promoted the idea of a grand Deepavali Dinner to coincide with the branding and promotion of the Chamber's image.
To start the ball rolling, Bharat initiated a Business to Business (B to B) Trip to the government of Sumatera for our chamber's members. The Sept 29th - Oct 2nd Medan Trip will encompass also 30 Malacca State Government officials including the Chief Minister of Melaka with a dinner on the other side hosted by the Governor of Sumatera.
We were also invited by Datuk Perumal of MIC to sit on the Perbadanan Kemajuan Negeri Melaka (PKNM) sub-committee to provide our feed back and suggestions on the upgrading of the Jln Temenggung and Jln. Bendahara street repairs for the coming Deepavali season which amounted to a cool 2 million ringgit.
As part of the branding and networking duties of the Chamber, members were informed of a collaborative effort between the new Sri Lanka Government & The State of Melaka.
In honor of these delegation coming to Melaka to renew old ties and to network between the business owners there and here, the Governor of Melaka will be hosting a sumptuous Dinner on the 25/09/2011 in the delegates honor whereas the chamber president had concluded that the Malacca Indian Chamber of Commerce and industry will host the delegates for lunch the very next day.
Hopefully this will lead to closer ties between these two countries and groups.

Moody September was almost at the half way point when the President of Malacca Tourism Association
Pn. Madelina called for a meeting of the Tourism Assc Exco on the 14th. The night's meet & agenda was to be hosted by Abdul & Co @ their Limbongan Restaurant with several invited guests.
As it turned out, an impromptu birthday celebration had also been planned by the MTA secretariat for me !
Those joining in for this impromptu celebratory session included, amongst others:

The food was excellent, the company wonderful and the scene- touching !
The family also took time out last Saturday to join in the Melaka Goldsmith's Association Annual Dinner for all their members. This Annual Dinner is incomplete without their sale of Limited Edition Clock Tower Gold wafers at subsidized prices for the members to purchase. The whole night was abuzz with news on the future price of Gold and how much higher it will spiral !
As the haze and days grow longer and the heat of the sun bears down more on us down here in Melaka, what more welcome respite can we have than to end the day with friends and flavor ?

I was surprised to meet my old school teacher Ms Audrey Lim here. It was fun to see her here again after all these years.(Almost 28 years since I left school !)
I also had the opportunity to meet up with some of my fans and good supporters from my previous Cafe -The Honky Tonk;the night was also made more memorable as the nearby Kampongs were blasting off cap after cap of the meriam buluh for the Hari Raya celebrations !
Imagine if you will, good company, tasty lovingly made food
and fire works to wind up the
evenings festivities !

All in all, a slow and lazy few weeks but memorable for the camaredery and frolic.
