Chandra Segaran's Night to Shine

Last friday, my lawyer Avatar and I had a jolly good time enjoying the Indian Vegetarian Meal at the Malacca Club together with Datin Sandra, Cashmir,Victor and their companions.

These days the club's vegetarian luncheons has made such an impact on the visiting members palates that it is quite difficult to book a table should you come in a little late !

Luckily for our little troupe, there were still available seats for us that afternoon which made the whole trip to the Club from Avatar's office worth it.

These special lunch sessions are a good time to catch up with our old friends from the other industries as almost everyone congregates here on Fridays to do justice to the excellent lunch spread offered by the Club.

A good hour and a half later we waddled off back to the office after a justifiably full lunch that was indeed memorable. I doubt anyone could have continued with work after such a bounteous lunch, but with a little reasonable effort, we managed !

My second boy Chandra Segaran had recently decided to partner with his friends to open up an event management company here in Melaka.
How fast they seem to grow up. It reminds me of what my wife used to tell me; that she could not wait to grow up when she was in her Teens but once past 21 she had no idea where the years went !
Though he is still studying (he's 19 years old and taking up Corporate Management in Stamford College); the past few months he has been busy with his group of friends creating events for a few businesses here in melaka.
The recent success of these earlier events has empowered him to proceed with bigger and better ideas and to-nite he has invited the family to oversee his most recent venture, as below:

With the support of his party going buddies and network within the dance scene here in Melaka, he's managed to acquire some good DJ's to MC the event with support from Tiger beer and dancers from the Academy. On a side note, I have yet to see anyone top the RM 28.00 nett per beer tower price here in Melaka. That was a real coup, if you ask me.

Though we old people were sticking out like a sore thumb amongst the young girls and men there, they clearly knew who we were and gave due respect to our table.

Some of these kids quietly sat and drank only after they came over and called us uncle and aunty whereas the others that we did not even recognize went outside to smoke their cigarettes -away from our prying eyes!

The respect my son has acquired within these short time can clearly be seen as almost every decision that night seemed to be coming from him and everyone else relying on his judgement call.

Michelle however was complaining when she came back home saying some of these girls were obviously below 21 and should not come to these places and she got a shock went she went to the toilet and saw 2 Malay girls making out in toilet !

My eldest son -Utheya Kumaran also brought his group of friends to enliven the place
My eldest son Utheya and his group of young men were also there that night supporting his younger brother. Their friends were kids they grew up with but unlike my batch, these kids are raring to conquer the world through business;unlike we were 20 years ago. Some have their own hairdressing saloons, others have gone into running their own boutiques and Bridal Shops and most are quite successful up and coming young men.

What can I say, being in Business is like foraging in a cold, cruel, dog eat dog and nasty world and I often catch myself worrying for my kids more than I ever worried about myself doing it !

Just like any proud and indulgent Father, I want to be there for them when they fall, to dust them up and kick them back into the game, but looking at the sprinting times and distance these kids are going, it will be me panting and puffing to keep up with them.

They are all good boys though, as while we were there, they were quite primp and proper so I decided to call it a night around 11.30pm to give them space, and right after I gave the signal that we were ready to leave, they ordered 5 new Towers and started calling the hovering girls from the next table (who were eyeing them from the beginning) over!

Full House

The Dance Floor was packed !

Anyways the night was young and the mood was good, so instead of going off to the Club, we decided to enjoy the night with a meal of Bah Kut Teh instead. With a full tummy and a satisfying evening preceding  we all called it a night around 2.00am as Angie was working the next day.

A Pleasant and memorable evening indeed.

What is a 'HINDU' ?

In 1995, Chief Justice P. B. Gajendragadkarwas quoted in anIndian Supreme Court ruling:

When we think of the Hindu religion, unlike other religions in the world, the Hindu religion does not claim any one prophet; it does not worship any one god; it does not subscribe to any one dogma; it does not believe in any one philosophic concept; it does not follow any one set of religious rites or performances; in fact, it does not appear to satisfy the narrow traditional features of any religion orcreed. It may broadly be described as away of life and nothing more.

Common Misunderstandings on Hinduism

Vedanta (and all Hinduism) is entirely monistic, believing only in the all-pervading world-soul, Brahman, rather than a personal God

This advaita philosophy is certainly popular, and offers a simple explanation of the many deities. Nonetheless, many theologians have considered God to be a person. He is not merely an anthropomorphic representation, nor are the various deities and murtis simply incarnations or representations of an impersonal Supreme.

Thus Hinduism includes both monism and monotheism. It is misleading to call the Abrahamic religions,"the monotheistic traditions," implying that monotheism is absent from the Eastern traditions. Vedanta includes many monotheistic schools. They may accept the existence of many gods and goddesses, but strongly emphasizes the pre-eminence of the Supreme Deity.
