Morning has broken

I awake to the scent of wafting Indian spices lingering in the air as the subtle tell tale throb throbbing noise of the pestle and mortar from the kitchen vitalize this morning glaze that envelops me.

Ginger; turmeric; curry leaves & coriander, these are the various identifying taste and smell bound surroundings that I grew up in.

I surrender my senses to the various scents, smells and sounds that embrace me every morning, and blessed as they are, these morning ritualistic scents and sounds have become a part of my expectation upon awakening every morning....... since forever i can remember.

As I stagger towards the bathroom with these creaking, complaining and slightly stiff bones, the crazy chirping, twittering and whistling sounds of the birds outside my house, foraging amongst the many trees there collide, mix then gel smoothly with the incessant din of Buddhist prayer mantra repeatedly played out loud by my new next door neighbors and the noise of the various malay ,chinese and indian radio stations being blasted by the other neighbors as part of their morning routines.

Added to this cacophony of sounds and imagery are the various barking dogs challenging the occasional roar of 50 / 100 cc motor bikes flitting through, each of these engines outfitted to growl out baying and brawling engine sounds at the slightest twist of the owners right hand, as they trespass through my eardrums on their way to god knows where.

With the help and touch of the caressing, whistling & still chill morning winds slowly rambling through my front door tampering the golden rays of the morning sun brightly shining through my darkened glass windows whilst occasionally carrying the cooking scents of the other house holds surrounding us, the promise of another grand day ahead is provided to me with much aplomb.

I must confess,my life will never be complete without these rude malaccan morning awakenings  .Long may they continue their morning trespass against or should I say ,in spite of me !

What is a 'HINDU' ?

In 1995, Chief Justice P. B. Gajendragadkarwas quoted in anIndian Supreme Court ruling:

When we think of the Hindu religion, unlike other religions in the world, the Hindu religion does not claim any one prophet; it does not worship any one god; it does not subscribe to any one dogma; it does not believe in any one philosophic concept; it does not follow any one set of religious rites or performances; in fact, it does not appear to satisfy the narrow traditional features of any religion orcreed. It may broadly be described as away of life and nothing more.

Common Misunderstandings on Hinduism

Vedanta (and all Hinduism) is entirely monistic, believing only in the all-pervading world-soul, Brahman, rather than a personal God

This advaita philosophy is certainly popular, and offers a simple explanation of the many deities. Nonetheless, many theologians have considered God to be a person. He is not merely an anthropomorphic representation, nor are the various deities and murtis simply incarnations or representations of an impersonal Supreme.

Thus Hinduism includes both monism and monotheism. It is misleading to call the Abrahamic religions,"the monotheistic traditions," implying that monotheism is absent from the Eastern traditions. Vedanta includes many monotheistic schools. They may accept the existence of many gods and goddesses, but strongly emphasizes the pre-eminence of the Supreme Deity.
