Father's Day 2013

The past few weeks has been rather frustrating and anxiety ridden, what with mummy being wheeled in and out of the A&E (Accidents and Emergency) ward to seek medical assistance for her fluctuating and High BP.

There are times her blood pressure can shoot up to 230/90 which is a very dangerous number.
At 74, mummy is still relatively healthy and is able to move about on her own. the main reason for that is she is very cautious of her diet and medication.

But these recent weeks has seen her grow worried and weary due to her fluctuating BP which has caused her to suffer a mild heart attack during one of those times...according to her geriatric ward specialist- Dr.Lim.
He has advised her to go on warfarin- a last resort BP medication, but because she will have to have severe vitamin K restriction after she consumes that tablet, (which is basicaaly broccoli, beans and other high  protein vegetables) mummy has rejected the idea, giving her late age and the effects a blood thinning medication like warfarin can cause her should she face a cut or broken blood vessel.

Mummy admitted into GH for high BP problem
At this moment she seems to have stabilized but now her Blood sugar level is playing havoc as it can dropped suddenly to 2.9 which means she could faint at anytime, anywhere. I am taking care of ensuring she eats properly and takes all her new medication on time for the time being. Let's see how she fares after this.

Michelle took me out for a evening of massage and shopping since it was father's day.We searched for a good Thai masseurs because of her sensitive nerves and burping problem when touched, and found it in an old friend : GMS Massage -now located conveniently next to the Malacca Club building in Melaka Raya.
They were booked up to 8.00pm but when Michelle introduced herself, the boss remembered us and happily managed to slot us in a earlier time slot of 6.00pm, which meant- no waiting.
Later that evening we had a stroll over at Mahkota Parade and dropped in on Yau Bee Hwa @ Royal Selangor to buy some gifts for Michelle's visiting colleagues in Coats.

We also bumped into some of her Toast Master's friends there, and I remembered they had taken a picture for their 2012-2013 members, as below, a couple of days ago...so here it is:
The 2012-2013 ToastMaster's Meet in 906 Hotel,Melaka Raya.

The evening culminated in a nice dinner at Home for us this year as I did not feel like eating out that day.

Defining a locality by its food is nearly impossible, especially if the subject is Melaka!

Many have tried to impress upon the unassuming public that Malaccan food galore starts and originates from the fusion of Malay, Chinese and Indian food but truth be told this  fair city state is more than the amalgamation of taste buds that these cultures brought with them. Much more.

As varied as its culture, music and coastal geography, so too is its food.  With a blend of pan Asiatic and European (Indo-Dutch & Anglo Saxon) influences, Melaka boasts a complex and colorful bounty to appease any palate from the spice worshipping locals to the greens- tofu seeking vegan onwards to the meat-chomping carnivore.

Like other international destinations, Melaka is a gem within a coastal cul-de–sac in this Malaysian peninsula delighting to display its wonderful local cum regional cuisine that’s found in its 13 states and the surrounding Asian region.

Within the ambits of the state limits, you can experience it all, taste it all, and savor it all.

Paradise is a word often expressed by many but here in Melaka, one gets a sense of how close that feeling may represent the word once you start savoring the many delectable’s on offer everywhere within the street’s and the more ambiatic enclaves.

From fancy, sit-down restaurants within the many shopping malls, hypermarkets and supermarkets located within 15 minutes drive of each other to the numerous Malay make-shift mom pop eateries located along the many winding ‘kampong’ roads within the city and it’s adjoining boroughs, from the nearby  Javanese-inspired dishes of the Indonesian archipelago to the grilled, skewered, roasted, and fried meat cuisines of the surrounding regional , from the freshest Malaysian seafood, to the fusion mix of Mediterranean type spices and north African style “wild meats”, it’s all here, in a country which some might say is infatuated by its culinary contributions to the world, and rightly so.

What is a 'HINDU' ?

In 1995, Chief Justice P. B. Gajendragadkarwas quoted in anIndian Supreme Court ruling:

When we think of the Hindu religion, unlike other religions in the world, the Hindu religion does not claim any one prophet; it does not worship any one god; it does not subscribe to any one dogma; it does not believe in any one philosophic concept; it does not follow any one set of religious rites or performances; in fact, it does not appear to satisfy the narrow traditional features of any religion orcreed. It may broadly be described as away of life and nothing more.

Common Misunderstandings on Hinduism

Vedanta (and all Hinduism) is entirely monistic, believing only in the all-pervading world-soul, Brahman, rather than a personal God

This advaita philosophy is certainly popular, and offers a simple explanation of the many deities. Nonetheless, many theologians have considered God to be a person. He is not merely an anthropomorphic representation, nor are the various deities and murtis simply incarnations or representations of an impersonal Supreme.

Thus Hinduism includes both monism and monotheism. It is misleading to call the Abrahamic religions,"the monotheistic traditions," implying that monotheism is absent from the Eastern traditions. Vedanta includes many monotheistic schools. They may accept the existence of many gods and goddesses, but strongly emphasizes the pre-eminence of the Supreme Deity.
