Poems for Gunabalan

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Sandra shared this on facebook:
·         Poem for Gunabalan:-

We now come to Balan, Michelle's other half;
If you can decipher what he says, you'll get a good laugh!
At forty six, he's a grandfather of two;
... Proud of his children, he tends to coo,
If you were in his position,
Wouldn't you, too?

Below is Willie's poem on me....
Willie Wing Hing Foo
Ah! The bliss of early domesticity,
With tender children who look so pretty,
How wonderful at this age of prime,
Anticipate little pitter patter of feet smeared in grit and grime,
Doting on little ones all over again,
What an ideal age to foster such love and gain

________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

My follow through:
My oh my, my life in a nutshell
though it appears quite concise
Whatever happened to the enterprising stud
found to be co conspiring with his future bards

Once happy to coo and gurgle
with his gaggle of angelic girls
neither a moment did he tarried
since he got married to his sweet miss blackberry

Now his days are numbered
but not hurried, though his calendars
a flurry of curried worries
full of multiple culinary allegories

he's blundered and thundered
been slandered and ripped expectations asunder
he's been plundered and often wondered
how grateful he is to his life and his wife ; Ahh, this glorious life !

Hi Bro.

It is really very beautiful.  Every word of yours has a true meaning.

You should be a poet. Even at 46 you are looking like a film star.

The way you pose for the shot. Please do not be carried away.

And see to that you will not catch a cold.

Thank GOD and your wife (Sis) for taking good care of you.

Earth Hour 2013 in Melaka

Saturday 23rd, March 2013 – 8:30PM- 9.30pm
In 2007, WWF-Australia inspired Sydney-siders to show their support for climate change action in the first ever Earth Hour event. It showed that everyone, from children to CEOs and politicians, has the power to change the world they live in. In Sydney, Australia, 2.2 million individuals and more than 2,000 businesses turned their lights out for one hour to take a stand against climate change.

In 2008, the plan was to take Earth Hour to the rest of Australia. But then the City of Toronto, Canada, signed up and it wasn’t long before 35 countries and almost 400 cities and towns were part of the event. It said something compelling to the world: that the climate challenges facing our planet are so significant that change needs to be global.

With the invitation to ‘switch off’ extended to everyone, Earth Hour quickly became an annual global event. It’s scheduled on the last Saturday of every March – closely coinciding with the equinox to ensure most cities are in darkness as it rolled out around the Earth.
By 2013, Earth Hour saw hundreds of millions of people across 135 countries switch off for an hour. But it also marked the start of something new – going Beyond the Hour to commit to lasting action on climate change.

And with the power of social networks behind the Earth Hour message, it is hoped to attract even more participation so that a truly global community committed to creating a more sustainable planet can be built.

Here in Melaka. Under the auspices of Seri Malaysia Hotel, Melaka, my family and I joined the many millions worldwide in this global event to help bring notice to the changes that climate challenges can bring to our lives. However, even that one hour felt miserably long and confounding to us city bred pampered brats as we tried to imagine a life without air con  street lamps, television, computers and what not.
It was tough, I tell you.
Luckily, Azimah (SMM Manager) saw our discomfort and invited my friends, family and I to the comfort of their air-conditioned restaurant and we were cordially invited to feast on our choice of  their ala carte menu for the length of the duration !

Some champions we turned out to be !

Joey's New Kopi Tiam

The piercing rays of the morning sun found my wife and I , this fine Saturday comfortably wrapped up in each other late into the day as we took the opportunity to laze around before starting the days routines.

The fridge is empty and it is time to fill her up with the week's groceries and we were thinking of dropping in to Mydin's for some of the daily staples. That will have to wait for later though, as we found getting up and moving about kind of difficult after a couple rounds of morning loving.

But, as they say ''carpe diem'' (seize the day) and after 11.30am, we managed to get out off the house and headed towards the supermarket.

My daughter in law Joey today started her kopitiam business located in Sin Hoe Gardens in Bukit Baru,Melaka. My son and his wife took over the operations of the existing business from the previous owner last week under a direct purchase lock, stock and barrel @ RM 10,500.00 agreement. Their monthly rental is also comparatively low at RM 1750.00 per month but it is a good clean take over at a very established location, which is very commendable.

Utheya is still busy running around daily as a Samsung phone distributing staff, so Joey will be running the day to day at the restaurant. Their two kids will temporarily be taken cared off by her mum, but my son is looking into hiring some maids for the girls soon.

Last Thursday was the Toastmasters meet in Sterling Hotel in Jalan Temenggung and this meeting of like minded individuals was well attended by members and friends with the a couple of guests from Germany and Peru. On this occasion, Michelle did her 'Roast' of Sandra; which was part of the curriculum towards her next stage in the leadership role of public speaking.

I kept a video recording of the entire performance for her viewing pleasure. She did quite well, I must say.

You get to meet many new friends through such social gatherings and many a times these passing contacts all come with full expectations of shared fun and entertainment for the evening for one and for all. Down the road one has traveled in this life, as you age you get to experience many situations both happy /sad and one of the life situations that can be thrown in your direction is the particular traits and characters of the people around you and how they conceive their life to be, as compared to you, as time goes by.

Many a person that we have met in our lives so far, exemplifies the ''verve for Living'' passion, in their search for satisfaction and fulfillment in this life. Personally, I feel that sometimes you have to ask ourselves, are you a person who stops to smell the flowers on the way to your destination or are you the type that will only stop to relax and smell the flowers once you reach your destination?

The difference between one and the other is the ability to be care and worry free even in stressful environments whereas the other may guarantee a life that is always in search of further happiness.

The other way to frame that big question is : do you know what you want in life?
If you do and you feel you have achieved that which you want previously....then are you grateful enough for that situation and life ?

I was likewise told earlier by a friend that if you were to posit such a dilemma (or existential question, if i may add) to an ordinary middle class Malaysian, I could be classified as ''biadap'' (rude).

I  confessed, I could not understand why,though.
Are we so entrenched in our secular ways that matters of the mind and thought can no longer be acceptable in social gatherings?

Has the passing of knowledge from one human to another with the grains of truth gained through pain and personal experience been filtered and viewed through rose tinted eyes so much in our society that only trifle matters and money matters be the only aim of our collective sense?

The answer to that question must be blowing in the wind, me thinks, for it is either I am in the wrong circles or I am so out of touch with the ordinary Malaysians that I am in the periphery of being an alien in my own society.

Such a dilemma indeed !
I can only hope it neither one nor the other but  just another opinion of a still developing mature mind that posited such an analogue in that dialog.

Musings of the Future Financial Fry- ups.

The recent hulla baloo over the incursions in Sabah notwithstanding, Malaysians are waiting with much anticipation the coming election dates. Even mundane activities and social gatherings amongst friends and family often elicit a spirited and sometimes edgy response once the conversation turns to politics here in Malaysia.

As a nation and a country, we are faced with a corollary of possible after effects with this particular G.E. but the fear at the moment seems to be-
“It is not who votes that matters but who counts the votes that matters.”

Apparently, many a possible result can be made to happen between the time you vote and the time your vote is counted- if you believe the opposition media.

‘’It is not the numbers but who devises them and then applies them that matters. It isn’t magic but trickery and you and I are in the audience’’ they say…..

But then deception is happening on many levels, aren’t they?
The Current Stock Market Valuation Is a Deception
The markets are where they are for one reason only, and that is the sea of money that the central banks have poured out across the globe.
There is no other reason.

Money flows into the corporations, money flows into the markets and the tide rises because it must. It is nothing more than a House of Cards, however dangerous that  game may be, but it works because there is no place else to go with the money. Not when many advance nations subscribe to the 0 – 1.5 % interest rate and interbank rates are at 1.00% nominally.

The  current euphoria,  the Big Casino feel that easy credit has manage to make happen here in Malaysia and elsewhere, continues from 2012, but the price will be high when it all ends and it will end because it is not this or that asset class that is in a bubble but the entire Global Bond market.
That means it involves every asset class.

The world that is a giant soap bubble will float until the heat of the sun pops the nearest bubble in one ugly mess.  Which country and which asset class is anybody’s guess but that by itself will not cause the Coming Fiscal Crisis.
It would be the contagion effect that will take down countries like ours.

I fear those subprime loans, dot.com fantasies, and the properties & credit crisis of 2007 will pale when we are done with this party because, my friends, the bill for the festivities must get paid.

Now that inflation is here to stay, the next question on my mind is how low the value of the RINGGIT will go. What is the current sustainable level for the Ringgit given our output (GDP) minus external, internal and guaranteed debt rates?

Here is the scheme so far; control and lower the value of the currency and play the Absolute Value game where Relative Value is consigned to a secondary position.

This means that our currency must be deflated to a lower value regardless of how the Dollar trades against the Euro or the Yen to magnify growth in exports. This shows rises in GNP and GDP statistical counting.

The trick will be to keep Consumer Price Index Growth (Inflation Growth) based upon the same methodology as debt to GDP ratios or the CPI fiction; it all depends on what and how it is counted.

So those in the venerable ivory towers sit around and plot. Malaysia must keep being commodities and manufacturing exporting nation. We definitely suck at offering services as a portion of GNP.

The ruse worked for CPI, it worked for the debt to GDP ratios, where liabilities of all types are not counted and questions raised, tossed into the trash bin so why won’t it work for currencies; it will.

Prices of goods and services don’t have to rise; we will subsidies them with our oil money-damm the next generation.

It is just another scheme but for the last 50 years it has worked.
However, since the new global fiscal crisis is still around this time around the next 50 years is a new game; it will be tricky. It is a game that has never been played before and there is no rule book for this one.

As I’ve said earlier, there are many probable reasons why the next General elections in Malaysia would be a game changer but noted above are some thoughts on its fiscal movements in the future.

Learning from History

Last week as I was relaxing and re-reading my collection of earlier Mythological books that were mainly bought from the bargain bin in Times Book store; I begun to wonder out loud,o why and what do these many, many 'Fire & Water Creation Myths' (some listed below), that all say the same thing, tells us about “our Creation”?

Flood Stories from Around the World
The stories below are flood stories from the world's folklore.
I have included stories here if :
(1) they are stories;
(2) they are folklore, not historical accounts or fiction by a known author; and
(3) they involve a flood.

Michelangelo Di Lodovico Buonarroti

The ground we stand on is merely a skin covering an abyss of water. Long ago, Pirman, the deity, broke up this skin, flooding and destroying the world. However, Pirman had created a man and woman and placed them in a completely closed ship of pulai wood. When at last this ship came to rest, the couple nibbled their way out through its side, and they saw land stretching to the horizon in all directions. The sun had not yet been created, so it was dark; when it grew light, they saw seven small rhododendron shrubs and seven clumps of sambau grass. The couple bemoaned their lack of children, but in time the woman conceived in the calves of her legs, a male child coming from the right calf and a female from the left. That is why offspring from the same womb may not marry. All mankind are descended from that first pair.

Hindu Lore:
At the end of the past kalpa, the demon Hayagriva stole the sacred books from Brahma, and the whole human race became corrupt except the seven Nishis, and especially Satyavrata, the prince of a maritime region. One day when he was bathing in a river, he was visited by a fish which craved protection and which he transferred to successively larger vessels as it grew. At last Satyavrata recognized it as the god Vishnu, "The Lord of the Universe." Vishnu told him that in seven days all the corrupt creatures will be destroyed by a deluge, but Satyavrata would be saved in a large vessel. He was told to take aboard the miraculous vessel all kinds of medicinal herbs, food esculant grains, the seven Nishis and their wives, and pairs of brute animals. After seven days, the oceans began to overflow the coasts and constant rain began flooding the earth. A large vessel floated in on the rising waters, and Satyavrata and the Nishis entered with their wives and cargo. During the deluge, Vishnu preserved the ark by again taking the form of a giant fish and tying the ark to himself with a huge sea serpent. When the waters subsided, he slew the demon who had stolen the holy books and communicated their contents to Satyavrata.

Allah sent Noah to warn the people to serve none but Allah, but most of them would not listen. They challenged Noah to make good his threats and mocked him when, under Allah's inspiration, he built a ship. Allah told Noah not to speak to Him on behalf of wrongdoers; they would be drowned. In time, water gushed from underground and fell from the sky. Noah loaded onto his ship pairs of all kinds, his household, and those few who believed. One of Noah's sons didn't believe and said he would seek safety in the mountains. He was among the drowned. The ship sailed amid great waves. Allah commanded the earth to swallow the water and the sky to clear, and the ship came to rest on Al-Judi. Noah complained to Allah for taking his son. Allah admonished that the son was an evildoer and not of Noah's household, and Noah prayed for forgiveness. Allah told Noah to go with blessings on him and on some nations that will arise from those with him.

When the god Kaboniyan sent a flood to cover the earth, fire hid itself deep inside bamboo, stone, and iron. Men later learned how to retrieve it from these places.
Source : [Cole, p. 189; Eliot, pp. 223-224]

The earth once rested on the three horns of the giant snake Naga Padoha, who grew tired of its burden and shook it off into the sea. The god Batara Guru, to recover it from the abyss, sent his daughter Puti-orla-bulan (who had requested the mission). She came down on a white owl and accompanied by a dog, but they found no place to rest. Batara Guru let Mount Bakarra fall from heaven for her abode; from it, the rest of the habitable earth gradually arose. Puti-orla-bulan had three sons and three daughters from whom the human race is descended. Later, the earth was replaced onto the head of the snake, and there has been a constant struggle between the snake, wanting to be free of its burden, and the deity. Batara Guru sent his son Layang-layang-mandi ("Diving Swallow") to bind Naga Padoha's hands and feet, but the serpent still struggles and causes earthquakes, and it will again throw the earth into the sea when it breaks its fetters. When this happens, men will either be transported to heaven or cast into a flaming cauldron; the sun will approach close to our world, and its flame will join with the cauldron's fire to consume the material universe. [Frazer, pp. 217-218; Kelsen, p. 133]
Debata, the Creator, sent a flood to destroy every living thing when the earth grew old and dirty. The last pair of humans took refuge on the highest mountain, and the flood had already reached their knees, when Debata repented his decision to destroy mankind. He tied a clod of earth to a thread and lowered it. The last pair stepped onto it and were saved. As the couple and their descendants multiplied, the clod increased in size, becoming the earth we inhabit today.

The mountains quarrelled over which of them was the highest. In vexation, their great ancestor Baluga Luomewona caused the oceans to rise by throwing into a sea a comb which became a giant crab which stopped up the ocean's outlet sluices. The water rose to cover all but the tops of two or three mountains. The people who had escaped to these mountains with their cattle survived.

Men once lived forever and knew no troubles. The earth brought forth fine fruits, flesh grew on trees, and milk and wine flowed in many rivers. One day, and old man came to the country and asked for a night's lodging, which a couple gave him in their cottage. When he departed the next day, he said he would return in nine days. He gave his host a small fish in a vessel and said he would reward the host if he did not eat the fish but returned it then. The wife thought the fish must be exceptionally good to eat, but the husband said he had promised the old man to keep it and made the woman swear not to eat it. After two days of thinking about it, though, the wife yielded to temptation and threw the fish on the hot coals. Immediately, she was struck dead by lightning, and it began to rain. The rivers started overflowing the country. On the ninth day, the old man returned and told his host that all living things would be drowned, but since he had kept his oath, he would be saved. The old man told the host to take a wife, gather his kinfolk, and build a boat on which to save them, animals, and seeds of trees and herbs. The man did all this. It rained a year, and the waters covered everything. After a year, the waters sank, and the people and animals disembarked. They now had to labor to gain a living, and sickness and death came also. They multiplied slowly so that many thousands of years passed before people were again as numerous as they were before the flood.
Source: [Frazer, pp. 177-178]

God, upset at mankind's wickedness, resolved to destroy it, but Noah was righteous and found favor with Him. God told Noah to build an ark, 450 x 75 x 45 feet, with three decks. Noah did so, and took aboard his family (8 people in all) and pairs of all kinds of animals (7 of the clean ones). For 40 days and nights, floodwaters came from the heavens and from the deeps, until the highest mountains were covered. The waters flooded the earth for 150 days; then God sent a wind and the waters receded, and the ark came to rest in Ararat. After 40 days, Noah sent out a raven, which kept flying until the waters had dried up. He next sent out a dove, which returned without finding a perch. A week later he set out the dove again, and it returned with an olive leaf. The next week, the dove didn't return. After a year and 10 days from the start of the flood, everyone and everything emerged from the ark. Noah sacrificed some clean animals and birds to God, and God, pleased with this, promised never again to destroy all living creatures with a flood, giving the rainbow as a sign of this covenant. Animals became wild and became suitable food, and Noah and his family were told to repopulate the earth. Noah planted a vineyard and one day got drunk. His son Ham saw him lying naked in his tent and told his brothers Shem and Japheth, who came and covered Noah with their faces turned. When Noah awoke, he cursed Ham and his descendants and blessed his other sons.
Source:[Genesis 6-9]

Men lived at ease before the flood; a single harvest provided for forty years, children were born after only a few days instead of nine months and could walk and talk immediately, and people could command the sun and moon. This indolence led men astray, especially to the sins of wantonness and rapacity. God determined to destroy the sinners, but in mercy he instructed Noah to warn them of the threat of a flood and to preach to them to mend their ways. Noah did this for 120 years. God gave mankind a final week of grace during which the sun reversed course, but the wicked men did not repent; they only mocked Noah for building the ark. Noah learned how to make the ark from a book, given to Adam by the angel Raziel, which contained all knowledge. This book was made of sapphires, and Noah put it in a golden casket and, during the flood, used it to tell day from night, for the sun and moon did not shine at that time. The flood was caused by male waters from the sky meeting the female waters from the ground. God made holes in the sky for the waters to issue from by removing two stars from the Pleiades. He later closed the hole by borrowing two stars from the Bear. That is why the Bear always runs after the Pleiades. The animals came to the ark in such numbers that Noah could not take them all; he had them sit by the door of the ark, and he took in the animals which lay down at the door. 365 species of reptiles and 32 species of bird were taken. Since seven pairs of each kind of clean animal were taken, the clean animals outnumbered the unclean after the flood. One creature, the reem was so big it had to be tethered outside the ark and follow behind. The giant Og, king of Bashan, was also too big and escaped the flood sitting atop the ark. In addition to Noah, his wife Naamah, and their sons and sons' wives, Falsehood and Misfortune also took refuge on the ark. Falsehood was initially turned away when he presented himself without a mate, so he induced Misfortune to join him and returned. When the flood began, the sinners gathered around it and rushed the door, but the wild beasts aboard the ark guarded the door and set upon them. Those which escaped the beasts drowned in the flood. The ark, and the animals in it, were tossed around on the waters for a year, but Noah's greatest difficulty was feeding all the animals, for he had to work day and night to feed both the diurnal and nocturnal animals. When Noah once tarried in feeding the lion, the lion gave him a blow which made him lame for the rest of his life and prevented him from serving as a priest. On the tenth day of the month of Tammuz, Noah sent forth a raven, but the raven found a corpse to devour and did not return. A week later Noah sent out a dove, and on its third flight it returned with an olive leaf plucked from the Mount of Olives in Jerusalem, for the Holy Land had not suffered from the flood. Noah wept at the devastation when he left the ark, and Shem offered a thank-offering; Noah could not officiate due to his encounter with the lion.

Aprocryphal scripture tells that Adam directed that his body, together with gold, incense, and myrrh, should be taken aboard the Ark and, after the flood, should be laid in the middle of the earth. God would come from thence and save mankind.
Source[Platt, p. 66, 80 (2 Adam 8:9-18, 21:7-11)]

A woman "clothed with the sun" gave birth to a man child who was taken up by God. The woman then lived in the wilderness, where the Devil-dragon, cast down to earth, persecuted her. At one time he cast a flood of water from his mouth trying to wash her away, but the earth helped the woman and swallowed the flood. Source:[Revelation 12]

In early times, the earth was full of malign creatures fashioned by the evil Ahriman. The angel Tistar (the star Sirius) descended three times, in the form of man, horse, and bull respectively, causing ten days and nights of rain each time. Each rain drop became as big as a bowl, and the water rose the height of a man over the whole earth. The first flood drowned the creatures, but the dead noxious creatures went into holes in the earth. Before returning to cause the second flood, Tistar, in the form of a white horse, battled the demon Apaosha, who took the form of a black horse. Ormuzd blasted the demon with lightning, making the demon give a cry which can still be heard in thunderstorms, and Tistar prevailed and caused rivers to flow. The poison washed from the land by the second flood made the seas salty. The waters were driven to the ends of the earth by a great wind and became the sea Vourukasha ("Wide-Gulfed"). [Carnoy, p. 270; Vitaliano, pp. 161-162; H. Miller, p. 288]

Yima, under divine superintendence, reigned over the world for 900 years. As there was no disease or death, the population increased so that it was necessary to enlarge the earth after 300 years; Yima accomplished this with the help of a gold ring and gold-inlaid dagger he had received from Ahura Mazda, the Creator. Enlargement of the earth was necessary again after 600 years. When the population became too great after 900 years, Ahura Mazda warned Yima that destruction was coming in the form of winter, frost, and subsequent melting of the snow. He instructed Yima to build a vara, a large square enclosure, in which to keep specimens of small and large cattle, human beings, dogs, birds, red flaming fires, plants and foodstuffs, two of every kind. The men and cattle he brought in were to be the finest on earth. Within the enclosure, men passed the happiest of lives, with each year seeming like a day.

Utheya's Birthday Dinner

On the Treadmill
The weekend that was just over, as usual was happily spent with activities surrounded by friends, family and flavor.

Though the roof repairs are still ongoing, it does not cause much botheration to the family as the contractors go about their work without disturbing the household much.

The clouds and rain that usually beset us around this time of the year seemed to have realized the ongoing repair job on my roof and has been visibly absent these past three /four days much to my delight.

In this small and rustic surroundings I call home and heath, our hideaway home accords me a piece of salvation away from the stress and temptations of the modern life.

Set amongst the idyllic Bukit Beruang Township and woodland, away from the human traffic, noise and maddening crowds; my house and home offers our family the best of both the country and city.

In the same way, this way of life we practice brings many experiences and joy.

Once combined with the seemingly compulsory and obligatory heart break and doubts that every living, breathing being finds confronting itself once in a while, we find ourselves giving Thanks to the
Good Lord above for the benefit of life itself.

The willowy and wispy winds of change that had been blowing through my life and my wife's life, these recent months brought some unpleasant memories that are hard to forget, but I believe life must go on without the burden of doubt and anxiety.

As Michelle often states, we would not know what lies in front of us all the time but at least we should know why and when we reached there that we did so by enjoying the present.

Nicole and I in a staring contest to see who blinks first !
I must confess though, that it seems obvious to me that my personal social life is now centered on Michelle (as she obviously takes the pain to make sure hers is centered on me).

It appears these days that hardly a week goes by that I can say, has my boy’s day out as almost all the events and happenings we participate in, are a part of her social calendar.

That was not a complaint though, as I do realize that the reason for said turn of events is due to my own desire to keep a low profile these days.

Cuba lihat, cucu gua cun tak?

Why it is worth mentioning is because a conversation I had with her friend David recently made me realize that I’m out of practice where social gossiping and plain old talking cock is concerned. It would appear that once you do not practice the art of conversation, it runs away from you.

Really, it does. The mind evidently knows what it wants to do and say but in reality the practice of talking and sharing a conversation makes what your mind wants to say seem discombobulated and piece meal like if you do not practice the art of conversing.

This clearly exemplifies what my father told me so many moons ago:

''Be careful what you wish for.You just might get it ''. In my case, being rest and relaxed for so many years has seemed to have taken away one of the traits that I was once well known for, and that is the art of public speaking with aplomb and confidence.

Be that as it may though, I 've come to realize that nothing remains the same and as they always say, ''change is the only constant in one's life''.

Roof repair and replacement week.

It's the beginning of March 2013, all is well within the Family Gunabalan and there is good news to boot.
We recently found a contractor to repair our terrace house roof at a price that is affordable to us. This particular job has been years in waiting as there was always something more urgent to spend the cash on.

But right now, my daughter Shoryn's best friend Chia Sing's father told us he can take on the job and we agreed on RM 10,700.00 to replace the Roof Ardex and beams. To be honest, the roof had never been renovated nor changed for almost 35 years (ever since the house was built) and it was high time to get it done. The current Malex- roof that the developers used has served it's purpose admirably and if we want to live on in this House it is high time we considered changing to more durable corrugated Ardex roof.

Changing the entire roof beginning with the back portion of the house
Previously, some other contractors wanted between RM 14,000.00 and RM 16.000.00 to get the job done but this chap is able to almost give a price that is 2/3rd's better and all that is left is to inspect the quality of material and work. Best part of it all is that we do not have to shift out of the house whilst they continue with the job.

A section of  Clock Tower area, Melaka City circa 2013
Once this part of the house has been cladded with new beams and the Ardex changed, I was thinking of re-painting the kitchen and maybe even wall papering some other parts of the house. We'll have to wait and see the outcome of this roof repairs first, though.

Now that the worry  of the roof leaking during rainy days can be kept away, it's again time to concentrate on matter closer to heart. making sure this body and soul is well taken cared of; physically and mentally, to be able to soldier on for the next decade or so.

To begin with- a hot cup of assam tea to help relieve the jarring day to day issues.

Followed with some rest and relaxation time with friends and family, contemplating the days and weeks ahead with a full tummy of yummy food and good conversation to boot.

Ending with some entertainment for all and sundry at the Malacca Club to watch the crowd as they pass through our lives and for them to watch us pass through theirs.....

The days are moving through hurriedly it would seem in these parts, as we soldier on but that does not mean we have to deny ourselves the privileges of a good life now, does it?

What is a 'HINDU' ?

In 1995, Chief Justice P. B. Gajendragadkarwas quoted in anIndian Supreme Court ruling:

When we think of the Hindu religion, unlike other religions in the world, the Hindu religion does not claim any one prophet; it does not worship any one god; it does not subscribe to any one dogma; it does not believe in any one philosophic concept; it does not follow any one set of religious rites or performances; in fact, it does not appear to satisfy the narrow traditional features of any religion orcreed. It may broadly be described as away of life and nothing more.

Common Misunderstandings on Hinduism

Vedanta (and all Hinduism) is entirely monistic, believing only in the all-pervading world-soul, Brahman, rather than a personal God

This advaita philosophy is certainly popular, and offers a simple explanation of the many deities. Nonetheless, many theologians have considered God to be a person. He is not merely an anthropomorphic representation, nor are the various deities and murtis simply incarnations or representations of an impersonal Supreme.

Thus Hinduism includes both monism and monotheism. It is misleading to call the Abrahamic religions,"the monotheistic traditions," implying that monotheism is absent from the Eastern traditions. Vedanta includes many monotheistic schools. They may accept the existence of many gods and goddesses, but strongly emphasizes the pre-eminence of the Supreme Deity.
