Last friday we (FCKL & SFA) welcomed the members of the Inaugural Regional Conference delegates of MFOLSA (Malaysian federation of La Sallian Associations) to the St.Francis Instituition's quadrangle for a Night of Fellowship and Friendship.
It was drizzling slightly that evening, but that eventually petered out to just a calming strong breeze which was most welcomed, as the conference invitees were galed with a sumptious display of Malacca Hawker's Food in the school canteen.
A good time was had by all and the visit of the
HNO.Alvaro Rodriguez Echeverria -the superior generale from Rome made this even more meaningful.
This inaugural conference will bring together the participants from the PERC region (Asia Pasific) of lasalle alumni's for the first time.
The list of attendees include Hong Kong,Thailand,Singapore,Japan, Phillipines & Australia.
The organising committee is MFOLSA & FCKL, but since it is done in malacca, SFA has also contributed in a small way it's time and effort in making a success of this grand event.
On Saturday, the whole day was filled with eye opening information for all the delegates on the giant leaps and strides made by the OLD BOYS ASSOCIATION in S'pore (their own International school-ST.Joseph's International); Phillipines- their programme on corporate partnerships was most enlightening! ; Japan- own college in Hakodate; etc.
Some of the resolutions passed during this conference was the initial act of creating a federation of lasalle Alumni at the Asean (& Australian )level for better networking and learning amongst nation and alumni's. The fact that the World Conference will be done in Phillipines this year brings a sense of urgency to this resolution. Also passed was the creation of a sub committee to oversee the prospect of getting the churches (who are the land owners of all these schools) to submit to a venture prospect of initiating a APEX School system in which the Lasallian ethos and teaching fraternity can be revived and encouraged privately.
